In the County of Santa Clara, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities comprise over 39% of the population representing a number of countries and embody a wide array of cultures and backgrounds. We are not a monolithic group. We are a tapestry of people from more than 50 ethnic groups residing and contributing to the rich fabric of America. The AAPI communities are expected to grow by 50% by 2060.
Seven subgroups make up 95% percent of the AAPI population in Santa Clara County, with the four largest being Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipino, and Asian Indian, followed by Japanese, Korean, and Pacific Islander communities. Understanding Santa Clara County's Diverse AAPI Community (2022)
Disparities and Injustice
The AAPI communities contribute to many positive ways to the vitality and richness of this County. Despite the perception of AAPI population being a “model minority,” there is growing evidence that disparities and injustice exist for some of Asian/Pacific Islander subgroups.
